Retinol – Good or Bad?
Retinol is an ingredient common to many effective wrinkle creams. One reason it is so widely used is because it has been proven successful because of its many abilities. Among these abilities are the fact that it is effective in elevating the amount of skin cells and collagen that are produced as well as working to reduce the amount of skin discoloration that often occurs as skin ages.
When retinol is used in the production of wrinkle creams it often results in the skin looking younger and fresher however there are times when this is not always the case. Although this well known ingredient has beneficial properties in decreasing the signs of aging, when it is used in higher concentrations it can be irritating to the skin. This is especially true of individuals who possess sensitive skin.
The side effects that may occur in some individuals who use products containing retinol include the following:
- Redness
- Flaking
- Peeling
- Excessive dryness
In some cases these products may only affect certain areas of the face in this way. One example of this is the more sensitive area of the skin under the eyes. In this case these individuals may use these products but avoid using it in this area to prevent negative effects.
Another solution when using products containing retinol is to look for products that contain lower concentrations of this ingredient. This often lowers the effects that result from its use making it possible to use even for those with sensitive skin.
In the event that you are among the select few individuals that are unable to use products containing any amount of retinol it is then necessary to look for other products that do not contain this ingredient. Don’t put the health of your skin at risk just to get rid of a few wrinkles. The good news here is that there are a few alternatives on the market when this is the case. These alternative choices are made without the use of any amount of retinol and do not have the effect of irritating the skin. Many people choose these options even when they are not affected by retinol containing products because of their positive effects.
It’s no secret that retinol can have tremendous positive effects on the reduction of wrinkles however many individuals choose to seek other alternatives to prevent the possibilities of the negative effects that are sometimes associated with the use of products containing retinol.
